From Ferndale you can drive less than two hours find some wonderful sights to see! Just starting at Mount Rainier National Park, or driving about 2 hours to Olympic National Park, both worth every second of the drive. In Seattle alone, there are so many things to see, like Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area and many, many other beautiful sights. Within a tank of gas, you would be able to visit Puget Sound and stop on one of the many islands there that allow visitors.

San Juan Island National Historical Park is also only about a 3-hour drive from Seattle and well worth the visit.

And if you are in the mood for something different, take about a 4-hour trek on I-90 and I-82, going southeast of Seattle, visit the Yakama Indian Reservation and then go to Walla Walla. Reach the point of extraordinary in Walla Walla, where wine, culture, and the beauty of the outdoors meet. Eclectic, and full of energy, this small town is packed with big surprises.

Also, be sure to visit some of the highlights in Seattle itself including: the Space Needle, Pike Place Market and the Chihuly Exhibit.

Besides all the amazing National Parks (and see more about them in that section below), Seattle and surrounds have incredible whale watching opportunities from Everett, just a bit more than a half hour drive from Seattle, an hour from Ferndale, or from Port Townsend, which is just about a 3-hour drive from Ferndale and 2 ½ hours from Seattle.

Whale watching is one of many outdoor experiences you should try to enjoy while you’re in the Washington/ British Columbia area. Other places offer whale watching too, including boats that leave from San Juan Island, and others that are day trips, departing from Seattle that take passengers on a half-day trip which guarantees you’ll see whales or your trip is free. These depart from Pier 69 on the Seattle waterfront. The Whale Plane Package includes round trip air on a Kenmore Air seaplane from downtown Lake Union, Seattle to Friday Harbor for a San Juan Island Whale Watching and Wildlife Tour by boat.

Within 3 hours drive of Seattle you can also get to Beaverton, Oregon, or Moses Lake, Washington, as well as Wenatchee, WA and Vancouver, Canada. Make an itinerary and be sure to scope out some of the many RV parks with gorgeous views in this scenic part of Washington State.

As we mentioned above, there are some wonderful National Parks to visit in Washington. In addition to what we mentioned there are also some with great learning opportunities. Fort Vancouver National Historic Site’s historic weapons programs and cultural demonstrations are attended by many of our customers at El Monte RV. Supposedly Great Britain and the United States almost created a war over a dead pig at the same location as the San Juan Island National Historic Park.  Mount Rainier National Park offers a glimpse into glaciers where you can hear the ice of the glacier crack.

For fabulous places to camp, fish, hike and learn about the history of the area visit Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area, North Cascades National Park Service Complex or Olympic National Park. There is so much to see and do in all of these parks you will want to return many times to ensure you see it all. El Monte RV can provide you with a motorhome rental each time you visit to ensure you'll travel in style and comfort! 

South of Seattle, only about 2 hours on I-5, you’ll find Mount St. Helen’s National Volcanic Monument in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, the oldest national forest in the United States. Come explore Mount St. Helen’s, do some mountain climbing or just relax and enjoy the beautiful wooded scenery.  Bring your camera.  For more climbing opportunities Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest will provide you with ample chances of practicing your skill.  For beautiful camping sites, trails for hiking, biking or horseback riding Colville National Forest, Okanogan National Forest and Olympic National Forest are excellent choices for a destination. El Monte RV will be happy to arrange your motorhome rental so you can enjoy your journey to any of these forests and also have a comfortable RV to camp in during your stay.

What better way to see the world than from the comfort of an RV?

Washington State parks are filled with beaches and lakes that are very popular spots for outdoor enthusiasts and many of El Monte RV customers travel specifically to this area to enjoy what they have to offer. Some of their favorite locations are Grayland Beach State Park, Ocean City State Park, Pacific Beach State Park, Sequim Bay State Park, Dosewallips State Park and Potlatch State Park. 

Swimming, boating, fishing, kayaking and any other water sport you can think of can be done at Moses Lake, Priest Rapids Lake, Banks Lake, Lake Chelan, Grayland Beach and Rialto Beach. Be sure to bring bathing suits! 
 

Come and visit the 10 worlds at Cougar Mountain Zoo. The “World of Cougars” is very popular as well as the “World of Reindeer.” Come and see the Marine Discovery Area at the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and meet the walruses and beluga whales.
 

Climbing walls, bumper cars, a super slide and an inflatable castle are all at Fun Forest (seasonal) and everyone in the family will have fun. Giant water slides, tube rides, raging rivers and rapids are in the Wild Waves portion of the Wild Waves Theme Park and a spinning roulette wheel or a timber axe that shoots people into the air are part of the Wild Park.
