RV Rental Kentucky –
For Your Kentucky RV Vacation

Starting out on an adventure through Kentucky? You can find the perfect motorhome rental at our El Monte RV location in Louisville. An RV vacation in the beautiful Bluegrass State can’t compare with anywhere else in the US. Below you’ll find some of the best places to visit during your Kentucky explorations.

Kentucky RV Camping Destinations

You won’t find many visitors to Kentucky that can resist attending the incredible Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. Since there is an RV Park just a couple of blocks away, RVers come in droves. This thoroughbred competition is the most famous in the country, with the Spring Race Meet occurring during the best times to visit the state – the last Sunday in April to the first Sunday in July.

The annual Kentucky State Fair with a horse show and performances from such stars as Rascal Flatts and Hank Williams Jr. attracts travelers from all over the U.S. Camping nearby offers a friendly community of RV lovers who can share all the fun they had while relaxing at the end of the day.

In the many peaceful National Forests and parks, you can find plenty of outdoor recreation to fill your days. A wonderful place to stop for a while is Land Between the Lakes, where you’ll find campgrounds with RV hook-ups. Enjoy biking, hiking, horseback riding and so much more.

Kentucky National Parks

Kentucky’s National Parks invite you in for a visit, the wonderful landscapes filled with the wonder of forests, valleys and sandstone cliffs. Lakes sparkle in the sun and rivers flow merrily towards their destination. At Mammoth Cave National Park you can get a special taste of adventure by hiking the Echo River Spring Trail at the Green River Ferry. It’s short but fun.

Head to the east and discover Daniel Boone National Forest. There are three lakes with many miles of shoreline to enjoy. Find the perfect campground to park your RV and get out there for some fabulous hiking, or fishing.

If you plan your RV vacation just right, you can hit most of the National Parks and stay at least a day or two, depending on your vacation time. Try not to miss the Clarks River National Wildlife Refuge in Benton, KY. Hunting and fishing here are the favored activities on these lovely 8,265 acres. At Cumberland Gap National Historic Park you will get your camera out to take some photos of this location to share when you get back home. You’ll also get some shots, if you are quick, of the wildlife that makes this park their home.

For primitive trails, stop at the Reelfoot Lake National Wildlife Refuge, but watch the swampy conditions on your hike. If you like whitewater rafting, visit the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. Rapids here are rated between classes IV and V, so you’ll have to have some experience before braving these waters. There are also over 180 miles of horseback riding trails.

Whatever National park you choose for your visit or if you attempt to visit them all, you’ll find a wealth of adventure and an RV vacation to beat all others.

Kentucky State Parks

With 51 Kentucky State Parks to choose from, you will have a wide choice of Bluegrass adventures awaiting you. Many outdoor lovers bring their RVs to these unique areas, finding their favorite recreational opportunities. Some parks offer boating and swimming, others hiking and horseback riding. Some are historic sites that provide the true flavor of the Old West and Civil War days.

At Big Bone Lick State Park you can see what early explorers discovered in the 1800s, namely megafauna fossils. These creatures came to this spot as there were salt licks, providing them needed nutrition. In Carter County, the Grayson Lake State Park has hiking trails that highlight the many species of mosses and ferns growing here. Shawnee and Cherokee Native Americans camped here, and now so can you.

Some other parks to add to your RV vacation itinerary are Kingdom Come State Park, My Old Kentucky Home State Park, Nolin Lake State Park and Lincoln Homestead State Park. Find more lakes for waterside fun at Taylorsville Lake State Park and Green River Lake State Park.

Major Attractions and Events

When you come to Kentucky, prepare yourself for some real excitement. At the Louisville Mega Cavern you’ll love the underground tram tour.  Also stop in to tour the Kentucky Derby Museum for some incredible interactive horse racing exhibits. In Bowling Green, KY you can take another underground tour, this time on a boat, at Lost River Cave.

Take your RV rental to the American Saddlebred Capital of the World in Shelbyville. You can tour the horse farms and get a real hands-on experience. In Lexington, there are also numerous horse farms and thus it is considered the Horse Capital of the World. You can also visit the Red Mile and Keeneland Race Tracks to place your bets.

If you love to see the birthplaces of famous people of the past, you’re in luck. Kentucky has seen the births of some of our greatest presidents. See the Birthplace of Abraham Lincoln in Hodgenville and the Birthplace of Jefferson Davis in Fairview. Two other famous birthplaces to see – the Birthplace of Bluegrass Music, Bill Monroe highlights music history in the boyhood home of Bill Monroe, considered the “Father of Bluegrass.” The International Bluegrass Music Museum in Owensboro has fascinating exhibits with demonstrations of instruments where you can even create your own music.
