State & Historic Parks
Two memorable locations are under the auspices of the National Park Service in New Hampshire – the State’s stretch of the venerable Appalachian National Scenic Trail and the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site.
Hiking the Appalachian Trail in New Hampshire is definitely for seasoned hikers. According to Appalachian Trail Conservancy, most of the New Hampshire section is quite rugged and found above the timberline.
Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site, on the other hand, is the perfect place to stroll through beautiful homes and gardens, try your hand at sculpting and learn more about the influential 19th century sculptor, Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
The most famous “national” in the State of New Hampshire is White Mountain National Forest. This vast region, home to tree-lined granite slopes, picturesque waterfalls and the Pemigewassett River, draws thousands of RV travelers each year. Don’t miss Franconia Notch State Park, right in the heart of the National Forest, where an awesome aerial tramway and a breathtaking view of Cannon Cliffs are sure to thrill your entire group.
With seventy-five State Parks (nineteen with campgrounds) showcasing a variety of geographic wonders, RV camping in at least one should definitely be on your itinerary. Here are three samples, just to whet your appetite: Wallis Sands State Park in Rye, NH, is a great place to stroll the beach, gaze out over the waves and enjoy a picnic with the family.
Ellacoya State Park, on the shores of Lake Winnipesauke, is a favorite among RV campers. Scenic campsites, an impressive stretch of beachfront and fabulous mountain views make it an ideal getaway while in New Hampshire. Monadnock State Park in the state’s southwest corner is a remote retreat on Mount Monadnock’s rocky slopes.
Major Attractions and Events
In addition to the Granite State’s Parks System, RV campers will want to experience the beauty of New Hampshire’s Lakes Region. Lake Winnipesaukee is the largest of the six major lakes of Central New Hampshire, but each offers visitors fascinating possibilities.
Swim, paddle, fish or cruise Lakes Sunapee, Winnisquam, Ossipee, and Squam, as well as Newfound Lake, one of the deepest in the state. The surrounding area is an absolute paradise for outdoor recreation fans, with thousands of miles of hiking/biking trails, horseback riding trails throughout the region and plenty of rock climbing opportunities. If you’re into whitewater rafting, be sure to check out the Ossipee River running to Kezar Falls in Maine. Some sections are rated I-II, and the scenery is amazing!
One more unique way to experience New Hampshire from your RV is by “leaf peeping” in the Fall. The autumn colors are simply breathtaking, and will inspire hours of driving the state’s scenic byways.

Flying into Boston’s Logan International Airport (BOS) positions you perfectly to begin your RV camping vacation in New Hampshire. On the ground, Hwy 91 runs north and south through the State, as well as Hwys 89 and 93.
