National Historic Sites 

Three Rhode Island historic sites are managed by the National Park Service. The Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor stretches through cities and towns, and would make a memorable motorhome trip in itself. The Corridor gives evidence to our nation’s transition into the Industrial Age, as well as offering exciting outdoor recreation activities.

Take the time to tour Touro Synagogue, dedicated in 1763 and still in use by a Jewish congregation. Located in historic Newport, this landmark can be your first stop in this beautiful resort city.

One more NPS site definitely worth stopping for is the Roger Williams National Memorial in Providence, RI. A monument to religious freedom, touring this memorial also teaches visitors about this early leader who founded the town of Providence.

 
Rhode Island State Parks

 

Near the Rhode Island / Connecticut border on the banks of Bowdish Reservoir, George Washington Memorial Camping Area is a no-frills way to experience RI in the wild.  Another Rhode Island State ParksRhode Island State Parks location that promises campers a good time is Charlestown Breachway.  This beach camping haven offers saltwater fishing, boating and plenty of scenic beachfront to explore.

Another Rhode Island State Park that fascinates locals and tourists alike is Goddard State Park in Warwick.  Your entire RV camping crew will find outdoor activities to enjoy, as this park offers horseback riding, beach swimming, a 9-hole golf course and scenic parkways to stroll.

The Ocean State promises outdoor recreation possibilities of all kinds at its beautiful state parks.  Biking and hiking trails, lakes, rivers and forests all play a prominent role in making Rhode Island’s state parks popular destinations. Major Attractions and Events

It may be a small state, but Rhode Island is packed with attractions and events motorhome campers will enjoy. Perhaps the most famous attraction in the state is Narrangasett Bay, which runs through the center of the state. From quaint historic bayside villages to thrilling seal or whale watching excursions, the Bay promises hours (or days) of vacation excitement.

 

Another historic jewel in the Ocean State is Newport, where travelers can tour the fabulous summer cottages of the rich now known as the “Newport Mansions”. The view is magnificent no matter where you go in this fabled harbor town. Cross Narrangasett Bay on the Claiborne Pell toll bridge for an unforgettable stay in Newport, home of America’s Cup racing the Newport Jazz Festival and some of the most extravagant real estate in America.

If your tastes run to sports, you’re in luck! Rhode Island’s popular Pawtucket Red Sox AAA minor league baseball team offers an enjoyable, affordable experience. McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket features free and very inexpensive parking and a great view of the field from all seats.
