The mountains, lakes and rivers of Vermont are the centerpiece of the State’s National Forest and a whole collection of State Parks. You’ll find abundant camping destinations there, as well as places to climb, hike, bike and play on your vacation. If exploring historical sites is your passion, Vermont is definitely your kind of place! A U.S. State since 1791, Vermont’s filled with sites like Mount Independence that memorialize such Revolutionary War heroes as Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys. Vermont’s Green Mountain National Forest covers four hundred thousand acres and encompasses the towns of Bennington, Manchester and Arlington. There’s a place to enjoy almost any type of outdoor recreation in the National Forest, with more than two dozen trails looping through meadows, around ponds and across mountain streams. Fishing is also a favorite activity in the Forest’s three reservoirs and more than forty lakes and ponds. State Parks in Vermont are abundant, in fact, you could spend an entire RV vacation simply discovering them. Treat yourself to a stay at Quechee State Park, home of picturesque Quechee Gorge. Major Attractions and Events One reason travelers flock to Vermont is for its more than one hundred covered bridges. The state’s tourism council has created a helpful page for locating the bridges on your route. Another beloved attraction that draws thousands each year are the vintage train routes know as the Green Mountain Railroad. Check the schedules and routes in your chosen section of Vermont for a train trip through Vermont and into the past. Lake Champlain is a vacation paradise, on the water, on the shore and on its barrier islands. Three state parks are located on those islands, offering recreation activities like paddling, fishing and hiking. There’s no RV camping on the islands, but they’re worth the ferry ride for a day’s fun. Along the shoreline, more than fifty beaches on Lake Champlain let summer visitors splash, sun and relax by this beautiful lake.
