National Parks
Shenandoah National Park in the Blue Ridge Mountains has to be one of the most scenic places in America! With dozens of overlooks and plenty of picturesque campsites, this park is a great place to start your visit to Virginia. Fish for brook trout, hike the Appalachian Trail, or photograph creatures in the wild. Shenandoah National Park is the place to enjoy it all.
When you want your kids to learn a little more history on vacation, turn the RV toward Appomattox Court House National Historic Park. The scene of the South’s Civil War surrender, this scenic village offers living history presentations, artifacts and more than 1500 acres to explore.
Southwest of Appomattox, visit the birthplace of Booker T. Washington, founder of Tuskegee Institute. The National Parks Service has recreated the Burroughs Plantation where Washington spent his early years as a slave. Learn how farming was done in the 1850s as you hear the inspirational story of Washington’s rise from slavery to American icon.
On the southern border of Virginia, RV campers will find the most beloved National Parkway in America. Slow things way down and really enjoy your leisure time by discovering the trails, towns and overlooks along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
As you head north along the Atlantic coast of Virginia, prepare to be enchanted by scenic Colonial National Historical Park. Connecting Yorktown, Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg, the Park’s Colonial Parkway winds through some of the most significant sites in America’s earliest days. Virginia State Parks
Some place you simply must visit when on Virginia’s eastern shore is First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach. Created to commemorate
where the Virginia Company first landed on their way to settling Jamestown, this State Park offers something for every outdoor enthusiast. Whether you’re biking, hiking, swimming or just out studying nature, there are comfortable RV camps nearby. Call us to help you reserve your campsite.
Near Roanoke, we recommend Fairy Stone State Park, named for the natural mineral crosses found throughout the Park. Famous for its picturesque campsites, Fairy Stone also offers a pleasant swimming beach and miles of hiking trails.
Also, just forty miles from our Roanoke location, you’ll discover Smith Mountain Lake State Park. Encompassing the second largest lake in Virginia, this Park features a large swimming beach and gorgeous hiking trails through hardwood forests.
If you’re longing to discover the Potomac River, Westmoreland State Park stretches for over a mile along its shore. Set up your RV in a riverside campsite, and then hike to Horsehead Cliffs for a picture-perfect view of the Potomac.

Major Attractions and Events
If you happen to be in Virginia during college football season, why not roll into the parking lot at one of the games and set up a first-class tailgate party? You’ll be in on terrific gridiron action, and have tailgating stories to share back home! Virginia Tech’s Hokies, the Iron Dukes of Duke University, and James Madison University (with its own “Dukes”) all play a great game, so join the crowd for football excitement! (And don’t forget the University of Virginia Cavaliers!)
With a comfortable RV to carry the crew, why not travel right across the state line into Maryland or North Carolina for even more football action? With NFL teams within easy driving distance, you can catch a Carolina Panthers or Baltimore Ravens game, cook up great tailgating memories, and head back into Virginia for the rest of your vacation!
But we must admit, the best tailgating fun of all just might be at a campground next to a NASCAR track! Richmond International Raceway has several campgrounds nearby, so start the party early by camping close! For a one more wild and rowdy NASCAR time, don’t miss the chance to see a race at Martinsville Speedway. Let’s talk for a minute about how to keep the kids happy on vacation. A pair of terrific zoos will make the young ones sit up and take notice! Visit Mill Mountain Zoo right here in Roanoke, and be sure to save time for one of the “keeper chats”. The Virginia Zoo is another great way to spend the day. Either way, you’ll have your motorhome to relax in after a memorable day at the zoo!
If the kids are clamoring for watery fun, turn your RV toward Ocean Breeze Waterpark in Virginia Beach. A one million gallon wave pool will surely keep the family busy!
One more way to make this the best vacation ever is to spend the day at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. Built with a European theme, this park features rides, shows and the Budweiser Clydesdales. Careful, though, the two-story, 70-mph drop on the Griffon roller coaster isn’t for the faint of heart!
